Kilrush/Askamore GAA Club

Official Opening of GAA Park and Clubrooms by Mr. Ciaran O' Neill, F.C.,C.L.G.

 Sunday 31st August 1986.

In 1944 the Club was formed, under the banner of Kilrush, and to this day it has remained.
This club was set up to cater for Football, and its officers were
Chairman: Mylie Moore
Secretary: Jim White
Treasurer: Aidan Daly.

They collected the price of a football, which cost 19 shillings, by levying each player at Sixpence per man. Martin O' Neill looked after the getting of the boots. It was from this modest beginning and the establishment of a hurling side in the early 50's that led ultimately to the formation of the present Kilrush/Askamore set-up.

The first real taste of success came in 1966 when the school boys won the Rackard League for the very first time. They repeated this success in 1967 and also reached the county final in hurling in the same year.
